   Our dentists need to make detailed measurements of your teeth, gums and jaw, especially if used in combination with implants. This is to ensure that your dentures are well-fitting, secure and comfortable.

Do note that in some cases when patients have parafunctional habits like night-grinding (Bruxism) or clenching, night-guards may be prescribed for protection of your Bridge and remaining teeth.

1. How long do dentures lasts?
   In all patients, the gums and jaw bone continue to modify and 'shrink' with time. Most dentures will need to be replaced after 5 to 7 years. This is to ensure that the denture is well-fitting and does not 'rock-about' when eating.
2. What are the common problems with ill-fitting dentures?
   Common problems are:
   . Gum soreness or ulcers from constant rubbing of the denture base against the gums.
   . Not able to bit on harder or chewy foods.
   . Food trap under denture base which may result in gum irritation, gum infection and decay.
   . Denture coming loose while smiling, talking and eating.
3. Can I wear my dentures all the time?
   Dentures have to be removed to be cleaned after each meal and at the end of the day. A denture cleaning product may be used on top of regularly brushing it to remove all food debris trapped. It is not recommended to sleep with your dentures.

1. What are all-porcelain bridges?
   In the past, bridges were made with a metal support structure or a metal lining that was concealed by an external layer of porcelain. These looked unattractive and unnatural as the opaque metal base was often visible. With advances in dentistry techniques and materials, bridges can now be completely made of porcelain. Known as all-porcelain bridges, these have the translucency of natural teeth and look just like the real thing.
2. Are all-porcelain bridges as strong as the old fashion bridges made of metal?
   Yes, all-porcelain bridges when properly shaped to fit and securely attached are strong and durable.
3. What are the side effects of this procedure?
   Some patients may experience mild sensitivity to extreme hot or cold temperatures in the mouth for a few weeks after the bridge is attached.
4. How long does a bridge last?
   With good oral hygiene, a bridge can usually last for at least ten years.
5. How do I know if a bridge is the most appropriate type of treatment for me?
   Our dental surgeons will carry out a detailed examination of your existing teeth, they will look for any empty spaces left by missing teeth as well as the condition of your gums. They will then make recommendations for appropriate procedures and advise you on treatment options.
6. Why is a bridge necessary? Can't I just leave the gap as it is?
   Leaving gaps untreated can lead to further deterioration of oral health, with gum disease and tooth decay more likely to occur in such situations. Furthermore, empty spaces may also have the undesirable effect of causing teeth to shift out of their proper position. Most people find it hard to chew food properly and speak clearly when they have missing teeth. This can be overcome by having a bridge.
7. Can these bridges be taken out like false teeth?
   Fixed bridges are cemented to your teeth and cannot be removed.

Smile Experts Dental Centre's prosthodontists work hand-in-hand with our in-house dental ceramists who will craft each set of teeth for every patient at Smile Experts on-site dental laboratory using only the highest quality materials. This ensures excellent fit, more natural looking teeth and greater satisfaction levels among our patients.

This procedure is usually completed in at least two to three appointments. At the first session, our prosthodontist will remove existing tooth decay and dental restoration. We then take an impression of your mouth for our in-house dental ceramists to create a customised set of teeth for you. During this appointment, you will also be fitted with a temporary set of teeth.

On your second visit to Smile Experts Dental Centre, our dental surgeon will remove the temporary teeth and replace them with a new set of permanent teeth. Due to the complexity of the case, sometimes more appointments are needed to complete the full mouth rehabilitation.

Maintenance
Practising good dental habits such as brushing twice and regular flossing is important, as are regular visits to the dentists and not chewing on hard objects such as ice. Our dental hygienist regularly performs six monthly cleaning and check-up for our patients.
